By Lesley · Photographer’s perspective
A newborn photoshoot involves more than choosing a backdrop. There is a baby who may need feeding, parents adjusting to a new routine, and sometimes an older child who wants to be involved.
Mamamiyo’s newborn sessions take place in your home. I bring the baby outfits and props, and the session includes both baby portraits and a family setup.
Plan the photographs before the day
Choose your preferred setups or themes before the photoshoot. This helps us prepare the pieces needed for your session and discuss the family photographs you would like.
Our current newborn package includes two baby solo setups and one family portrait setup. Parents and siblings are welcome to join.
You can find examples in our portfolio, but please check with us about the availability of a particular outfit or prop rather than assuming every historical setup is still available.
Leave room for feeding and settling
A pause does not mean the session has gone wrong. In her published review, Lillian Louie described appreciating the flexibility when her 11-day-old baby needed to feed several times during the shoot.
We recommend photographing newborns around 10–14 days old, and we also photograph babies up to one month. If your baby is older, contact us to discuss a suitable session.
