Choosing a Maternity Outfit You Feel Comfortable In

Choosing a maternity outfit starts with how you want to feel in the photographs. You might enjoy the familiarity of a soft cardigan, the movement of a gown or the gentle detail of a lace robe. There is no need to choose the most elaborate look if a simpler outfit feels more like you.

At Mamamiyo Photography in Singapore, outfits for mum are provided, and you may also bring your own. These real portfolio examples can help you describe your preferences before your session.

Start with the coverage and texture you enjoy

A knitted cardigan can be a useful starting point if you like soft texture and a familiar, relaxed feeling. Notice how the layers frame the baby bump rather than looking only at the colour. Ask yourself whether you prefer your bump covered, partly visible or shown more clearly. All are valid preferences to discuss.

Browse the maternity outfit portfolio and save examples that match your comfort with necklines, sleeves and coverage. You can like a photograph's mood without wanting exactly the same styling. Tell us which part appeals to you: the knit texture, the soft light or the way the outfit sits around the bump.

Consider how the outfit feels when you move

A flowing gown gives a different feeling from knitwear, with fabric extending around the body and into the background. That does not mean you need a dramatic pose to wear it. Share the portrait you like and explain whether you would feel happier standing, sitting or keeping your movements small.

For anything you bring from home, try sitting down, lifting your arms gently and taking a few comfortable steps. Check whether a waistband digs in, a neckline shifts or a strap needs constant attention. Choose clothes that let you relax instead of spending the session adjusting them. If something feels uncomfortable, say so; the photograph should work around your comfort.

Plan two looks and the small details beforehand

A lace robe offers another texture and a different balance of coverage. If you enjoy both a flowing look and something softer, choose examples that show those differences. You do not need to collect dozens of choices: two clear favourites, with a short note about what you like, are easier to prepare around.

The current Maternity Package includes a one-hour studio session and two outfits. Send your preferred looks before the shoot so we can discuss fit and suitability. Bringing your own clothing is an option within your planned outfit choices; it does not automatically add another look to the session.

Read the maternity preparation guide for undergarments to prepare for your chosen clothing. Heels are optional. If your partner or children will join, plan their colours alongside yours rather than requiring everyone to wear an identical outfit.

Contact Mamamiyo with your pregnancy week and two favourite outfit references. Tell us what you would like covered, what you love about the examples and anything you would prefer to avoid. That gives us a practical starting point for portraits that feel comfortable and personal.
